aguma | Center OS: New ConceptWell I've decided to write a lil' OS from the base of my previous attempt. This time it will be 16-bit because I'm more familiar with that stuff.
Anyway, I had this cool idea I wanted to share with you guys.
Say I make a text file, with the contents "Blah blah blah" or whatever. Then, when I save the file, I head it with "TEXT" to let the OS know it's a text file. I save it as "FILE" or whatever.
Then, in the CLI, I just type FILE and it reads the header ("TEXT") and knows it's a text file, so it shows the contents.
If it were an executable, it would be "EXEC" or something.
I tried this and it seems pretty neat, but it might be the source of viruses or scams...but its not really possible to write a virus for a single-tasking OS so that's OK.
Do you think it's a good idea? Or a terrible one? Or you didn't read it at all? | 2009-11-21 | 5:37 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:Center OS: New ConceptCool idea makes everything simple, I had a similar idea for Geode, im going to make a VCS (Virtual Cabinet System)
The layout is simple:
Cabinet:Drawer/Folder/File
or
Entertainment/Videos/Jerry Jackson Series/My Friends
but in the file list it has labeled what it is. I just didn't want you to think i was copying your work when i release it. | 2009-11-21 | 6:06 PM |
twilightsentry | Re:Center OS: New ConceptNeat. It sounds kind of like a light-weight version of classic Mac OS's resource forks. | 2009-11-21 | 6:11 PM |
