Brandon | My latest EBay PurchaseI found a big lot with a lot of random hardware and figured I could use most if not all of it, so I bid and ended up winning: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-computer-parts-RAM-CPUs-Power-Supplies-etc_W0QQitemZ290333757166QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item43993d8eee&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A15%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A14%7C294%3A50#ht_500wt_1182
The 2 biggest things for me are the AM2 mainboard, its relatively new and worth all $50 I paid, and the 775 mainboard as I play tech support for most of my family/friends and Dell Mainboards don't last, a good spare is a good thing to have :P | 2009-07-30 | 9:25 PM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseAlmost enough to build a computer. One of those motherboards looks similar to one that I have. I forget the name of the motherboard brand but is the CPU socket a Socket 7? | 2009-07-31 | 5:22 PM |
SonicBrit | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseI love random hardware crap :) | 2009-07-31 | 5:28 PM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseMe too :) It shows, my collection is 32 systems and a bunch of other parts, all in my bedroom :P I got a 4'x2'x6' shelf that they all fit on, I probably should post a picture of my collection :P
@Todd: Yeah "Shuttle HOT-569 Socket 7" is there, also a Pentium MMX 266MHz, but I'll probably run a K6-2 300 or 400 in it. | 2009-07-31 | 7:42 PM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseNeed an AMD K6-2? I have one from my old Socket 7 ATX. Not sure if it works but I never had an AMD machine fail. | 2009-07-31 | 9:16 PM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseThose Socket 7 boards seems un-reliable to me (2 of the dead boards I have are Socket 7, although it probably is partly my fault), but CPUs seem to hold up well. Anyways to answer the question, it depends on the speed, I have a 400, 300, 233. And my other Socket 7 CPUs (for fun) are: Pentium 200MMX x2, 166MMX, 166, 75 x2. I am a little excited about the Pentium 288MMX :P It probably a 266, anways my 200MHz running at 233 will smoke my 233 at 233, so the new one should be pretty nice. | 2009-07-31 | 9:26 PM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseActually it's not a K6-2, it's a K6-3+. I just took a look at it. ;)
I never heard of a Pentium 288MMX. I thought after the Pentium 266 MHz CPU they went on to make the P2. | 2009-07-31 | 10:41 PM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseWell 288 makes no sense, as Socket 7 boards have a 66Mhz bus, and it doesn't divide evenly, it would have to be 4 which is 266. Wow, a K6-3+, comes in 400, 450, 475, 500 MHz variants, so it would have to be pretty fast, and yeah, I'd be interested. | 2009-07-31 | 11:04 PM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseI think it's 450 since I see "450 ACZ" whatever "ACZ" stands for. | 2009-08-01 | 7:57 AM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseHere's specs on that chip: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K6-III/AMD-Mobile%20K6-III%2B%20450%20-%20AMD-K6-III%2B-450ACZ.html | 2009-08-01 | 9:20 AM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseWow! That's pretty good for a Socket 7. | 2009-08-01 | 9:52 AM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseTechnically its Super Socket 7 (100mhz bus and AGP Support), and its the second best CPU for the socket, so it would have to be good. I'd like an ATX super7 board, I don't like AT boards, but on ebay I'd have to pay $10 for the board and $10 to ship it, $20 for a 400mhz system? No thanks :P | 2009-08-01 | 11:54 AM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseDoes this mean you don't want the AMD K6-3+? | 2009-08-01 | 12:16 PM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseI'll probably take it, I mean its better than an Skt7 CPU I have, and I've got a nice collection, it'd be a nice addition. | 2009-08-01 | 12:40 PM |
Todd | Re:My latest EBay Purchaselol You sound like one of those rich people who collect trophies or something except it's CPUs in this case. ;)
I can mail it as soon as I find some foam. | 2009-08-02 | 9:28 AM |
Brandon | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseI have a collection of packing stuff, I can't throw it away, forever in a landfill :P And i collect pretty much any hardware, I'd love to have my own repair shop someday. | 2009-08-02 | 12:08 PM |
SonicBrit | Re:My latest EBay PurchaseI like to collect hardware too, sadly though my mum makes me throw out the stuff that doesnt work though, too much stuff too little room :P, although when I move out :D (HEHEHE) | 2009-08-03 | 10:32 AM |
Brandon | Update on my latest EBay PurchaseIt came in the mail yesterday, the optical drives are rough, and the AM2 mainboard and Skt A CPU don't seem to work, but the RAM all works, the skt370 parts work the 478 mobo works, and everything was there, so not too bad. | 2009-08-11 | 2:55 PM |
Todd | Re:Update on my latest EBay PurchaseSpeaking of hardware, do you have any 512 megs of DDR2100? A friend of mine wants to upgrade the RAM in his laptop. | 2009-08-11 | 4:35 PM |
Brandon | Re:Update on my latest EBay PurchaseI have a 1GB stick of DDR PC2700 (Faster ram of the same type, DDR, will work fine, assuming the system can take the capacity) and a 512MB stick from the same machine so I would assume of the same/similar speed. | 2009-08-11 | 6:40 PM |
Todd | Re:Update on my latest EBay PurchaseI'll ask him if he'd be interested in buying it from you. | 2009-08-11 | 8:13 PM |
