Brandon | New QBASIC site? The QBASIC community is falling apart, Pete's QB Site has no forum posts anymore, no new news, no new files, qbasic.com is loosing their forum admin, and doesn't look all to organized, qb45.com is a bunch of old content on a new database with no community. I think the community needs a new simplistic site with a app database with reviews/comments/downloads/screenshots/etc and a forum with a good domain and a community, what do you think? | 2009-07-17 | 4:31 PM |
Todd | Re:New QBASIC site? The problem is simply that the world is moving on, and so is the QB community. We're not doing as much QB programming anymore and the sites are dying not because of the lack of design but rather because we outgrow our old ways. A new site would only be popular for so long and then get snuffed out from inactivity. If people on mailing lists and newsgroups wanted a new site, they would've switched a long time ago. The point is that their sites flourish due to their related passions. QB is no longer being maintained or used in corporate markets thus what point does it serve? There are people who look upon these languages as hobby programming and eventually leave it due to things like jobs, continued interests, and just the passion to go on to greater things. We shouldn't forget QB nor let the sites go down. QB45 exists as a file database and to show that despite the lack of a QB community, drifters and people who stumble upon the site might find something useful that might just change their lives. You can't truthfully say that QB alone is what got you interested nor did the QB manual teach you how to write in QB. The point is simple: we depart from the old and look for the new. If Apple and Microsoft were satisfied with CLIs and thought people would continue to use them, they wouldn't have made their GUIs which we use today. Just because people invented the method of traveling with horse and buggy doesn't mean they'd be satisfied enough not to invent the automobile. | 2009-07-18 | 6:53 PM |
