Brandon | Win7I figured that I better try the RC, not to help Microsoft as much as to mess around, as I'm sure I'll have family that uses it and will want my help. So I rigged this up:
-Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8Ghz
-1GB 533Mhz DDR2
-40GB Seagate IDE HDD
-Geforce4 64MB AGP
-AOpen DVD-ROM
That's my setup with Win7 RC, and Im gonna test it out :) | 2009-06-14 | 6:43 PM |
Brandon | Update on Win7Well I am disappointed, it seemed pretty decent :P It seems fast enough, with 1GB of RAM I was content (I didn't play any games), I couldn't get fancy effects from the video card, disappointing considering my Geforce2 32MB works with Compiz. I also had to download an audio driver, it didn't come with one, but I installed a couple apps I had on a flash drive, Firefox 2 and VLC .8 something and they worked. I even installed DOSBox and it seems pretty good. I was surprised to find that Fun500 5 ran fine, without the use of DOSBox. But testing Fun500 4 which was made in FB revealed that DOS app support isn't perfect.
I don't think Win7 will make Linux or Mac users convert, but it seems good enough to hold on to most of what users Microsoft currently has. | 2009-06-14 | 8:32 PM |
Todd | Re:Update on Win7Yeah I'm still an XP guy. :P When it comes to OSes, I like running them in "old-school" mode and turn off fancy effects, KIS, and remove all the clutter. Hell in Linux I could probably go forever using X Windows if I had to. To be honest, the only reason I use XP is because 98 wouldn't have the hardware compatibility I need.
It sounds like an accomplishment and one of my friends likes it too. He dual-boots to Windows 7 and Vista and uses 7 more. I don't think I'll upgrade unless I'm forced to (even then I'll look for downgrade disks). | 2009-06-14 | 8:42 PM |
Brandon | Re:Update on Win7I figure that I might as well study the enemy. I support linux 100%, but the more I use other OSes, the more I realize it could use or that it already has. | 2009-06-14 | 9:28 PM |
JFK | Re:Update on Win7XP linux or mac for me.
heck id use 2000 if they still supported it. | 2009-06-15 | 7:49 PM |
Todd | Re:Update on Win7Yeah, I'd use it if I could find a copy. lol Usually in an OS I can mod it or tune it to work the way I want but with Vista they don't have the application support I need and CAN'T FIX! :P | 2009-06-15 | 9:18 PM |
Brandon | Re:Update on Win7I gave up on Win7 when I couldn't get FreeBASIC to work. I bid on a copy of OS/2 on ebay, maybe I'll get that so I can have a nice development system :) | 2009-06-15 | 9:46 PM |
Todd | Re:Update on Win7FB doesn't work in 7? It's gotta be the most compatible 32-bit program out there! | 2009-06-15 | 11:10 PM |
Brandon | Re:Update on Win7I used the version I got for my macbook a few weeks ago, so it might not be the latest, but it wouldn't work. (I was the Windows version) | 2009-06-16 | 11:41 AM |
