Brandon | OSesWell I've used computers my whole life, but in the past few years I have switched between the three most popular Operating Systems, Windows for at least 2 years, Linux or at least 1 year, and Mac OS X for almost 6 months. Now those are just the numbers as my default, primary, everyday OS, I have tinkered with them all on and off.
My advice, don't be to quick to judge. I tried Mac OS on an older system and really liked it, and the eye candy was nice, but after really using it, its easy to find flaws. Macs of the three have the poorest quality of applications, a lot of them are either Windows or Linux ports, but there is a few good ones, mainly made by Apple. And of course you have to run it on Apple Hardware, which can be more expensive, although I find that it can be competitive, especially higher-end. Mac OS is pretty and easy for the end user, but its rough on hardware(probably equivalent to Vista).
Windows has apps, most Linux apps are ported and they are general ported well(unlike some Mac ports), and commercial games are all for Windows, Viruses tend to be for Windows as well, meaning antivirus, antispyware, antimalware, animalware, etc, needs to be kept up to date (Assuming you are going on-line), and even then re-installation is often required to keep your system at a "new" speed.
Linux is the most free of all OSes, you can make it what you want, and with the right config can run on machines that Vista would never ever run on, but sometimes this config can be confusing, which is a common complaint against Linux, but doesn't Windows have the same problems? Also some peripherals don't have Linux drivers so you have to be careful when buying hardware. Linux also has the package manager, which I miss in other OSes.
In summary, Linux is the best OS on the market really, It grants you a lot of freedom, and even my little sister can use it.
