Brandon | My history.I started QB1.1 in 2004 and found the GUI, X-GUI 3, I was amazed that QB could do this, and found JacobPalm.dk with many other GUIs. Petes QB Site was full of stuff and I found a graphics tutorial. I started work on a GUI, with the help of Jacob, Todd, and Steve, eventually I needed a name.
Fun500 the name of my first website was what I chose. Now, because I didn't know about the /L switch, I used the num-pad to control the mouse. I also used the INPUT command, and didn't have buttons yet, but I made three releases based of this same code, now known as the 2005 series.
Fun500 1 came once I learned about the /L switch and had a new design, that I put a lot of time into, and thought was pretty nice. I had buttons, but still no real inputs.
Next came the dark ages, as far as actual releases goes. I was determined to make Fun500 2, the best scripted GUI ever, and in the process needed a lot of help, and released a lot of BETAs. Kyle, MystikShadows, Todd, Jacob, Steve, ysft, MPNQB, and Pharaoh were the the main members of JacobPalm.dk, and all contributed to making these BETAs and building my knowledge. Jacob even ported one of my BETAs to FB, marking my switch.
Then JacobPalm.dk went down. Todd's smaller site The GUI Blog was were I posted my news, and I kept in contact with Todd, and Murray Parkinson.
In 2007, I gave up and made a GUI similar to 1 in FreeBASIC and it had some pretty decent features, but nothing amazing.
Finally I tried one of my BETAs, and realized it was pretty good, and I could make this, I sat down and wrote 2, and the next day 3.
About a year later, I decided to finish work on the code I'd written as a sequel to 3, and make it much more efficient, it was released as Fun500 4.
Todd, always with good intentions, and always too busy, really wasn't doing anything to keep the Blog fresh, and any site I made myself was limited, without him there.
I pretty much told Todd that I was taking over his site, and he let me do it, hell he even helped me get Joomla! going!! As it turns out, it was a good move, the forum was soon going with posts and we were hearing from people that hadn't been around since JacobPalm.dk was open, even Jacob himself showed up.
I would like to credit Todd Suess for all he has done for the community, almost any GUI ever made is at his review site: http://qbasicgui.datacomponents.net/ and this site is as much his as it is mine.
This is the paragraph were a tell you what happens next, Its hard to tell really, I might learn C, work on a new scripting GUI, finish the current Fun500 5 BETAs, or just lay low for a while. | 2009-03-28 | 5:07 PM |
