Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!You're giving up your EEE?!?! I thought you loved that thing almost as much as your MacBook! I might buy it but I'm a little short on cash. Unfortunately I don't have anything of equal or greater value unless you can get some use out of an HP Colorado 8 GB tape reader or some 20 GB HP tapes.
When I'm home in the summer, I'll be selling A LOT of stuff on eBay and hope to make some good money on all my Matchbox cars and Hot Wheels. If I can't meet the price now, I'll hopefully be able to pay for it (if it's still for sale) in either May or June, whenever I get around to selling it. | 2009-02-08 | 2:00 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Yeah, with the Macbook I don't need the EEE anymore. I don't see those tapes as really useful, although, do you don't you have some older IBM laptops? | 2009-02-08 | 2:11 PM |
Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!I only have an IBM ThinkPad 380 (P1 - 133 MHz) and an i-Series ThinkPad (Celeron ~ 233 MHz). The 380 is hard to turn on since there's something wrong with the battery and the i-Series is kind of slow for me. | 2009-02-08 | 3:52 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Yeah they are pretty old, The i-Series might work with Syllable? Do you know what the video card is?
I'm not really sure what you have, other than the old IBMs and some Armadas. | 2009-02-08 | 4:09 PM |
Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Unfortunately I don't have it with me so I can't check. The i-Series should be able to run Syllable. I have a touch-screen PenCentra 130 but I don't think you want it since it has Windows CE 3.0 burned into ROM. | 2009-02-08 | 5:33 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!The biggest issue with my 233Mhz Cyrix laptop is it has some shitty video card. A stripped version of puppy would work minus the video card.
WinCE sucks!! On a related note, I need a cf card for my thin client and they are only 20 bucks. | 2009-02-08 | 6:24 PM |
Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Windows CE does suck since there's nothing that works for it! Plus they force you to use Microsoft Word as a text editor! :P
How much memory do you need in a CF card? | 2009-02-08 | 7:41 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!I need at least 512MB, 1gb or 2gb is ideal. | 2009-02-08 | 7:52 PM |
pharoah | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!I too can't believe you're ditching your eeepc. :(
Now I'll be the only eee guy around here AND I heard about them from you. | 2009-02-08 | 10:24 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!I wish I had got the 4GB, the 2GB just wasn't enough. | 2009-02-09 | 1:40 PM |
Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Even with Puppy running? Or didn't you install Puppy? How fast is your Eee? I really didn't have much time to look at the demo one at Staples and all I could tell was that it was an Intel brand. I've read mixed reviews saying it's 900 MHz and others saying it's 1.6 GHz. | 2009-02-09 | 2:16 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!Theres a lot of EEE models. 2G is more than enough for Puppy, I was running Xubuntu.
Heres a chart of EEE models: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asus_EEE#Specifications

Todd | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!For some reason, I thought you had the 901 or something but I wasn't sure what model it was. My Lifebook B2630 is 900 MHz too. It's not that small though. ;)
How's the bus speed for flash memory? I know it can be slow when there's a lot of files being copied (especially when they're small in size). | 2009-02-10 | 12:11 PM |
Brandon | Re:Hardware For Sale!!!!The flash memory hasn't been any bottleneck for me. With Xubuntu the system ran better than any Windows box I've ever used. | 2009-02-10 | 1:41 PM |
