jasonwoodland | wget dosemuwill wget work in dosemu, btw, can I have a link to a download? Thanks | 2009-01-18 | 6:08 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuI think there's a DOS version of wget but I could be wrong. If there is, you'll have to have DOSEmu configured to accept outgoing requests to the internet. | 2009-01-18 | 7:14 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:wget dosemuOn a real DOS machine would it work? QML could be in a GUI soon!! | 2009-01-18 | 8:54 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuIf you have a packet driver WGET for DOS will work. i haven't tried to get it working in DOSEMU yet, but if someone gets a decent GUI with an HTML/QML browser going, let me know. | 2009-01-18 | 9:58 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuWhat about Arachne? | 2009-01-18 | 10:05 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuIt depends on a packet driver, and I wasn't overly impressed. Its like mobile IE :P | 2009-01-18 | 10:10 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuIs it really that bad? I thought it was just a simple HTML browser. | 2009-01-19 | 7:00 AM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuI was running it on my thin client (it about 100mhz) and it was very slow and rendered about as well as mobile IE. | 2009-01-19 | 9:03 AM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuI really hate IE when it comes to making the site skeletons for my PHP projects. Firefox renders DIVs in the middle as they should be but IE always renders them on the left, so I have to write CSS for both IE and Firefox. Why can't M$ just copy Mozilla's Gecko? | 2009-01-19 | 12:46 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuDon't worry M$ is being sued by the EU (European Union) for including IE in Windows. If my site won't display in IE, Who cares? If your in IE I don't want you on my site anyways! | 2009-01-19 | 1:28 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuNice! That's the first time I've heard of someone fighting the power! I don't care about your site being in IE since I never use it, unless I am on a PC without Firefox (even then I sneak PortableFirefox on a USB drive). It's not that I care about IE but I always learned that you have to tailor to every browser when making a website, which can really suck, especially when testing in IE. I am a straight Firefoxer but I know there's like 50% of the world still uses IE.
lol It was funny because my high school was pretty stupid when it came to those things. The secretary would send out bulletins as per the principal and she'd always spell things wrong like, "Adobe" would be "Abode," or "Firefox" would be "Foxfire". I guess she knows about the internets. | 2009-01-19 | 2:30 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuThey sued M$ in the past for bundling Media Player with Windows and won, so in Europe you can buy Windows with or without media player. | 2009-01-19 | 3:31 PM |
| Re:wget dosemuPeople are trying to sure MS for including their own software in their own operating system? Thats pretty stupid. And I don't think you can remove IE because it is part of windows explorer or something.
Who other than the developer should decide what his programs should do? Don't like it? Don't buy it!
But I guess if you have lots of money, you can sue for just about anything. | 2009-01-19 | 4:04 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuM$ are a bunch of bastards, why don't you see Dell/HP/Levano/Gateway/Acer selling FreeDOS/Ubuntu/Linux machines on their front page? Simple, M$ won't let them. | 2009-01-19 | 4:09 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:wget dosemuHow??? Are they sorta connected companies or is ms bribing them? | 2009-01-19 | 5:35 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuNot completely true. Dell is experimenting with a line of Linux laptops. I think they load Ubuntu or a Freespire distro on it, but another reason they load Windows on them is because of one simple thing: support. Microsoft offers tech support, which is unfortunately the downfall to most distros (excluding ones like Redhat and SuSE) but there are lots of programs and software made for Windows and Mac OS only. More people are starting to bridge over to Linux (finally) but a lot of people are still unwilling to even look at it. One company I worked for used MS-everything. Their server OSes, their database system, their e-mail system, everything. I hated it and the reason was because management was unrelenting to go with anything 3rd-party, unless Microsoft didn't offer it, in which case they had no choice. | 2009-01-19 | 6:10 PM |
| Re:wget dosemuWhat makes you think that MS decides what operating system Dell/HP/... computers should run?
Its just that everyone knows windows, it has the best support for hardware/software, and its easy to use for normal people. I myself sometimes have a hard time configuring my linux computer from time to time, and installing software on it, I can't imagine someone who can't even use windows be able to use linux to its fullest.
To be honest, linux is nice if you know what you are doing and have a good knowledge of computers and are able to put the time on reading manuals and documentation, but windows is alot quicker and easier for isntalling software/dependencies and configuring it.
And why would a store-bought computer come with freedos? :S | 2009-01-19 | 6:34 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuWell Dell does sell some open systems, but you have to hunt to find them.
Everything made by M$ :P LOL LOL Every is buggy then.
Linux does have some learning curve to install, but so does Windows. | 2009-01-19 | 6:46 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuThe Eee PC is the only real laptop being sold with Linux. I was at Best Buy the other day and someone was asking me how to use Xandros Linux, the distro on the Eee. | 2009-01-19 | 8:22 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemuThe eee comes with baby linux OS. lol They really cut out a lot of functionality. | 2009-01-19 | 8:27 PM |
Todd | Re:wget dosemuI thought it was a stripped down version of Xandros. I was playing around with it and there really isn't much. There are the basic apps but there's virtually nothing. The desktop reminds me of the Sugar GUI for the OLPC. | 2009-01-19 | 9:14 PM |

lol It's the best OS since you can't do ANYTHING! lol j/k What do you run on your Eee? | 2009-01-20 | 3:28 PM |
Brandon | Re:wget dosemueeeXubuntu 7.10, Its a little outdated tho, if I had a 4GB eee, I might update the OS. | 2009-01-20 | 4:32 PM |
ikongui | Re:wget dosemuThere's also htget for DOS, I used it for the first version of my browser in Ikon and it worked alright. Just needs a packet driver. | 2009-01-22 | 2:45 AM |
