Could you please PIMP my XP? | 2008-11-03 | 2:08 AM |
ksr | Re:XP VistaI must question your motives. To me Vista is one ugly piece of crap :P | 2008-11-03 | 12:01 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaYeah I don't really like Vista's look and feel too much. I can't do without a menu in a program. I can only wonder what Windows 7 is going to hail. | 2008-11-03 | 12:57 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaBOOOO WINDOWS IS SHIT!!!!! BILL G IS A GAY FAG! | 2008-11-03 | 3:55 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaSpeaking of Windows, did you ever try Crossover, Brandon? It's basically WINE for any OS, including Linux. They have tech support which is why it costs money but it's runs on Mac OS X too. If it can run Windows apps almost perfectly, I'll use it. But stupid campus makes us use XP or Vista because their network security system is retarded. | 2008-11-03 | 5:10 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaIf my school requires Windows, I'll be like FUCK YOU and do somewhere else! Those bastard piss me off, well windows is #1 so use it, well fuck you this isn't communism, I'm in America I have choices! It might be fun to try a lawsuit, and say they are supporting a monopoly. And if all else fails I hop on a plane to Europe, where they have more laws against the Devil M$. | 2008-11-03 | 5:16 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaMy school is stupid when it comes to network security. They force you to install CrapAfee AntiVirus which makes my computer slower than a retarded bastard maniac.
The other day when I was at Staples, I saw Windows boxes in an aisle, and they took up half the aisle for all the different versions. I hate how XP is still $100 for upgrade, $200 for a new installation when it's almost 8 years old!!!!! I mean Red Hat never costs that much for their desktop!
I'm planning on transferring to Lehigh where they have computer labs running Solaris! | 2008-11-03 | 5:23 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaI'd run FreeDOS before any version of Windows. At my school I'm pretty lucky, the teacher I work with Likes Macs, so I'm gonna fight to get one! | 2008-11-03 | 5:45 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaI thought Apple usually gave Macs to schools. Strange that they don't.
I mean I am a jack of all OSes so I'm not as anti-Windows. I just get desensitized to using it and just have lowered standards. lol
I only use Windows to run Windows programs that won't run on WINE or won't run as fast on WINE. | 2008-11-03 | 5:51 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaWell I have to admit I have one copy that my dad gave me, its an "upgrade" technically that I have on a *cough*couple*cough*pcs so for the once in a great while I want to play a game in windows, I haven't messed with WINE much. | 2008-11-03 | 6:19 PM |
| Re:XP VistaLol brandon, dont be such a bitch about it. It is only an operating system. | 2008-11-03 | 6:40 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaI sound like a damn hipi, don't I? I'm probably crazy, but I'm not in my head. | 2008-11-03 | 7:08 PM |
aguma | Re:XP Vistayou know, windows isn't THAT bad! lol who am i kidding, it sucks | 2008-11-03 | 7:21 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaThere's nothing wrong with hippies. ;)
I just hope eventually Linux will have its bigger influence on the general mainstream of computer users. I think if Linspire or something that made the transition from Windows simple and easy, more people might use it. Because you're not pulling the carpet out in front of them, but rather switching it for a better rug. | 2008-11-03 | 7:23 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaWell my gf just thinks im crazy. | 2008-11-03 | 7:25 PM |
| Re:XP VistaI dont think that windows is as bad as some make it sound. I do agree its buggy here and there, kinda slow, and has a crappy interface but it is good enough for most people.
Todd:
I think that all OS' are gonna stay where they are. Windows' goal is to make a crap load of money, while linux's goal is too be a great operating system. And Mac is kind of in between. | 2008-11-03 | 9:04 PM |
aguma | Re:XP Vistaactually macs are targeted toward incredibly rich people (lol) | 2008-11-03 | 10:17 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaYeah I mean I guess it's really what you like and what you're used to using.
Personally I kind of think Macs are too pricey. If they were cheaper, I'd use it more. | 2008-11-03 | 10:30 PM |

ysft, thankyou.
Everyone else, WTF?! I only want the themes. I feel like an idiot. | 2008-11-03 | 11:55 PM |
Todd | Re:XP Vista \"Screw It!\"I personally don't know how to make your desktop look EXACTLY like that. It's something built into Explorer that causes it to display your folders like that. I don't think Explorer can be customized to that extent. | 2008-11-04 | 7:26 AM |
Brandon | Re:XP Vista \"Screw It!\"yeah, unlike Linux, you want make everything the way you want it :P | 2008-11-04 | 1:30 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:XP VistaI go onto crystalxp.net, the only thing i don't use is the bootscreen modifier. i have the software to do what i want. maybe the service pack is the problemo.
brandon: i acually came across a ubuntu theme for xp but i doubt a xp theme for ubuntu exists:laugh: | 2008-11-05 | 2:12 AM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaI know there's a "Windows" theme which is just the generic theme resembling Windows 95/98. I never saw an XP theme or Vista theme for any Linux WM. They usually follow themes from other WMs. | 2008-11-05 | 7:32 AM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaThey Jason, there is atleast 50 different WinXP themes for Ubuntu! And the Ubuntu Theme of XP probably requires a patch not supported by M$. | 2008-11-05 | 1:33 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaIs this in KDE or GNOME? And does it come on the CD or do you install it from their package site? The last Ubuntu I played around with was Kubuntu Dapper Drake.
In KDE, I remember seeing only a Windows 95-ish theme and some other OS themes like QNX, X-Windows, and their regular ensemble. | 2008-11-05 | 3:27 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaI'm taking in general with all WMs included. | 2008-11-05 | 3:56 PM |

Brandon | Re:XP Vistago xfce!! | 2008-11-05 | 5:34 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaGNOME hasn't been that bad to me. KDE on the other hand, is SLOOOOW! I haven't really used Xfce except on DCL. | 2008-11-05 | 5:47 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:XP VistaYou know how much I know about Linux now... | 2008-11-06 | 12:06 AM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaDon't beat yourself up over it. If you want to learn more about it, just find a nice distro like Ubuntu, Puppy, DSL, etc. and play around with it like there's no tomorrow. I'd do it on a computer that you can risk rather than one with code or work on it. I use a laptop for DSL where I know I don't have anything important on it. | 2008-11-06 | 7:31 AM |

Todd | Re:XP VistaDoes Apple have those stupid validation techniques that Mircosoft uses on Windows? I found a tool that actually disables it completely and hopefully permanently, on Windows that is. | 2008-11-06 | 12:28 PM |
Brandon | Re:XP VistaNot that I've seen. | 2008-11-06 | 1:43 PM |
Todd | Re:XP VistaOkay because Mircosoft's validation is stupid and has one major flaw: if you register it, you can't register it again. :P So even if you bought it, you can't re-install Windows. Then again, I don't expect anything that would save you money from Mircosoft. | 2008-11-06 | 4:29 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:XP VistaLol, Bill G must have programmed that part himself.
BTW: Brandon, aren't you getting sick of Microsoft Operating System names on your site? | 2008-11-06 | 5:25 PM |
