I finally got my dad to wire my bedroom! No more damn wireless drivers!!! That means I can do more with just about anything. I tried my Mac out on-line and its pretty prehistoric, I think I'll try to hack up DSL a little for my 166MHz IBM and I have My thin client with the packet driver up and running, earlier today I chated with Murray using a program called BSFlite. I guess I dunno where I'm going GUI wise but I think I'll install Unidesk and some DOS apps. I really want to use this thin client for something.

I never really used a Thin Client but can you run other things besides WinCE on there? Because I have a couple tablet PCs that were being thrown out and I got them just in time. They run Windows CE 3.0 (annoying and slow) and it won't handle anything else since the OS is a ROM chip and stores data in RAM. I'd like to get one but I just don't want to be stuck with Windows CE since I can't run anything on it. There are no programs that work on it and they took away Notepad and force you to use Word! :( It's like a nightmare!

Well you need to watch the CPU. If its a x86 CPU you should be able to swap OSes. Most use a Solid State Disk for storage, just copy FreeDOS to it and your set. You might have trouble finding packet drivers, I was just lucky.

ToddRe:Room \"Wired\"
How did you connect to the internet? I take it you're talking about ethernet since dial-up is pretty old. lol ;)

BrandonRe:Room \"Wired\"
Yeah, I have a cable from my router upstairs to my old 24port 10speed hub and then to the thin client which has a packet driver and a WATTCP.CFG file(tells it what IPs to use and stuff). Then you just run arache or whatever and it works.

Neat! It might be fun to see what I can do with a 166 MHz CPU and 32 MB of space. ;)

I know, I can't wait to do it with my thin client. Technically its a Geode 300MHz but its as fast as a Pentium 150.

ToddRe:Room \"Wired\"
Never heard of Geode but I saw a neat computer when I went to a pawn shop near town on Friday. The guys were pretty shady but the computer was built like an iMac. It had the computer built into the monitor with a DVD-ROM and floppy drive. It was a 2.4 GHz machine which could also handle cable TV. You just press a button and it switches the monitor over to cable TV. ;) I would've gotten it but the guys were pretty shady and tried to sell me a Pentium I laptop for $150. I tried to go lower but they were pretty mad that I was trying to negotiate. I didn't bother asking about that computer since it must've been stolen, like everything else they had there.

This is the one I saw: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/pacco-group-ix-my/1805-3118_7-30592623.html It's a Pacco Ix My CIU. Sounds like a Mexican computer. lol ;) Yeah the guy was saying, "I have a good Compaq laptop for $150. I won't sell for less." I told him, "It's a Pentium I and I can find them for little to nothing anywhere else." And he just said, "What do you think I'm stupid? I won't sell for less than $150, what did I say?" I just said, "I'm just trying to negotiate," and just left. It was a Compaq Armada 1590DT. Ironically, I had one exactly like it at home which I got for free. lol Wonder what he'd say when I'd tell him that.

ToddRe:Room \"Wired\"
lol Yeah. He was pretty weird. He and his brother run the shop and they were too friendly. My friend Rich wanted to get a video game and they were hassling him to buy some salt-water taffy. The guy was saying, "I have diabetes but try some salt-water taffy. Try a piece! Just try one! Try a piece! Try one!" Rich took it and threw it away when we left. It probably had LSDs in it. lol
