Brandon | GUI of the MonthWell we have a few weeks to vote on GUI of the month for April. I nominate Fun500 4, my own GUI, so please don't let me win :P | 2010-03-12 | 10:05 PM |
Brandon | Re:GUI of the MonthI think I'm going to win :) So guys, thank you, I take your lack of posting to mean that my nomination is fair and accurate. | 2010-03-16 | 11:19 AM |

Brandon | How GUI of the Month worksThe way GUI of the month works (starting now :P) is that when the award for the current month is announced, I will post a thread with my nomination for the next month. Then it is upto site members to nominate GUIs. The GUI with the most nominations wins. In the case of a tie, I will break it based off of the arguements and details given by the nominator. Please note that changing your ballot is welcomed, and at the beginning of next month there will be a GUI up! Also note, a GUI can win multiple times (in a row). | 2010-03-24 | 11:15 AM |
Brandon | Re:GUI of the MonthI nominate the Fun500 for a couple reasons: -It's the#1 downloaded GUI -It (ver 2-4) is one of if not the best modern scripter -It's been entered in every GUI Awards
Basically, this is an example of what should be attached to each nomination, that way you may be able to influence other people's nominations, or if nothing else, inspire me to choose your nomination in case of a tie. | 2010-03-25 | 6:54 AM |
aguma | Re:GUI of the Month"It's the #1 downloaded GUI" -- well FAROS is the second most downloaded, it got there in 1 day, and it downright sucks, so obviously the number of downloads isn't an accurate measure of its quality
"One of the best modern scripters" -- then why did it barely have any apps, and none of them were very complex? At least Spark had a login system, and a file selector written in the scripting language
"It's been entered in every GUI award" -- didn't you enter them all? I don't see how that makes it any better
I'm just refuting your points, cuz I'm in debate see. Needed to practice. Honestly I agree with you though, Fun500 should be the next GUI of the month. Count this as another vote for Fun500, even though I'm criticizing it :P | 2010-03-25 | 9:48 PM |
Brandon | Re:GUI of the Month"obviously the number of downloads isn't an accurate measure of its quality" That's true, it'd be easy for a GUI to cheat, but I'm trusting that no one will.
"why did it barely have any apps, and none of them were very complex? At least Spark had a login system, and a file selector written in the scripting language" Fun500 4 had the starts of a file selector (the problem was sending the results to the running script), and a login system (which was hard coded in FreeBASIC admittedly), but I don't see Spark in the GUI Database, and if I'm going to nomiate a GUI it better be either in the database or on Todd's Review site so that it's easy to access.
"It's been entered in every GUI awards" -- Which just shows that it's been active over the last 5 years.
Thanks for the nomination, this debate is actually what this thread is supposed to inspire. | 2010-03-26 | 10:49 AM |
HorvatM | Re:GUI of the MonthMy vote still goes for Dick's GUI (if that one counts). Why? Because the GUI is very compact, yet it supports context menus, and you can already move windows with the mouse. It also supports background images. The analog clock is cool too (even if it doesn't update automatically) - I haven't seen it in any other GUI. Some routines are also written in assembly, which gives it extra speed... not to mention bragging rights :) | 2010-03-28 | 6:00 AM |
Brandon | Re:GUI of the MonthThe main reason I wouldn't nomiate it is that it hasn't had an official release with a version number, to my knowledge. If an official release is made and added to the GUI List, I'd definately concider it in a future month. | 2010-03-28 | 7:23 AM |
