Brandon | Group GUIAnyone interested in helping with a team effort GUI? (You will have to donate a little time, even if its to talk with us, about what to do!) | 2008-06-30 | 9:44 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:Group GUI Great idea! To get our base everyone set out what will be where, who is programming what and how it will be set out! Tell all of us by posting on the blog.
...that's just an idea though... | 2008-07-02 | 8:15 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIBrandon, remember Pheonix?
We can use that to start us off for a framework. We can modify it and make it better but that was something you wanted to start a while back. | 2008-07-02 | 8:46 PM |
jasonwoodland | Re:Group GUIWhat is that Todd?
BTW: There's an AMI Ad on my TV and there's a woman wanting you to buy a ring with the savings. Lol. Do you have that on your TV? | 2008-07-02 | 9:12 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIhttp://qbasicgui.datacomponents.net/viewtopic.php?id=161
Pheonix was this GUI Brandon, myself, and some other members of the GUI community were working on but it never got past what it is on that page.
I wrote the code and Brandon made the design. | 2008-07-02 | 9:22 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIWell I have a simple question. What "type" of GUI? A Unitasking system, like Blue or Rush, A Scripting System, like X-GUI and GIMI, a special all-in-one EXE, or a system with a multitasking Kernel? | 2008-07-02 | 9:37 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUII was thinking of something with a multitasking system (with EXEs [it's definitely possible]) and scripts too. A scripting system will allow people to write programs and develop apps for a community.
Having it in one EXE isn't good since it can be slow or bad programming. | 2008-07-03 | 7:43 AM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUILast I checked your the only guy here with much experience in another language? So you get to make the multitasker!!! My latest idea is maybe taking the seal 2 kernel and stripping it to run multiple QB Apps? | 2008-07-03 | 9:05 AM |
MPNQB | Re:Group GUIDo you know how to multitask EXEs? | 2008-07-03 | 9:35 AM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUINo. Mystikshadows told me what I would have to do one time and it was all over my head. | 2008-07-03 | 9:37 AM |
rCX | Re:Group GUISounds like an interesting idea. I don't think I will have much time to contribute. I used to code in QB back in the day but now I code in ASM. | 2008-07-03 | 12:37 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIOne plan I have is to create a GUI similar to DESQview/X. It was a multitasking DOS GUI that could do it all. It could run Windows inside itself.

But maybe a newer look and feel. | 2008-07-03 | 9:22 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIWell do that but make it so we can make apps for it in a BASIC Library. | 2008-07-03 | 9:27 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIBut we just need a new look and feel. I think the original one for DESQview/X is kinda old. | 2008-07-03 | 9:33 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIYes we also need it released freely, not like the legally skectchy abandonware. So how long till the kernel is done?
Like my new Avatar?:) | 2008-07-03 | 9:53 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIWhen I get back home, I'll start working on it.
Where'd you get that avatar? ;-) | 2008-07-03 | 10:03 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIGood. We'll be expecting updates!
CoolAvatars.com or something like that? lol, I couldn't show my mom this site if I had my old avatar. | 2008-07-03 | 10:07 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIOh I see. My parents don't really care but then again I don't think they'd get upset over a Johnny Cash flipping the bird avatar. lol | 2008-07-03 | 10:10 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIWell they probably wouldn't but if might not look good for an admin? lol | 2008-07-03 | 10:12 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUIlol True, I guess. | 2008-07-03 | 10:13 PM |
rCX | Re:Group GUI
Yes we also need it released freely, not like the legally skectchy abandonware.
So I guess we should use a GPL licence or something like it.
Is this gui going to be written using QB or FB or both?
( needs cool avatar as well...) | 2008-07-04 | 1:06 AM |
Todd | Re:Group GUII'd say we attempt QB. FB isn't that great in DOS but pretty good within Windows. My only concern is that since it's in its Alpha/Beta stages, there will be development problems. | 2008-07-04 | 7:06 AM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIWell, whatever you think. once you have a multitasking demo, we'll work from there. | 2008-07-04 | 8:51 AM |

Hello, Brandon.
This is Artelius from le QB Forum. Attached is a bootable floppy disk image
of the kernel I have been writing in ASM.
If you have Linux and a floppy drive,
cat nose.img > /dev/fd0
should do the trick. Only the first dozen or so sectors are actually used so
you can ctrl-C after a few seconds if you don't want to wait. And then
reboot... Or you could try running it in an emulator such as Bochs.
Regarding writing a kernel in QB... I think it's possible. I'm mainly
interested in proving that it can be done; I'm not sure if it's ever been
done before. I don't really have the time to work on it anytime soon, but
I'd be willing to help someone else and perhaps provide a bit of ASM code
adapted from nOSe.

Todd | Re:Group GUIThis reminds me of QBinux. Remember there were some people in QBN developing it? | 2008-07-04 | 5:36 PM |
Brandon | Re:Group GUIWas that Seb McClouth's (Can't spell) project?
I also had an idea with that Multitasking Kernel, remember Wallace Software? They were working on some multitasking maybe they could help? Do you have anything yet? | 2008-07-04 | 5:39 PM |
Todd | Re:Group GUINot yet. I won't be home until later next week.
I remember Wallace Software was working on it. You might be able to e-mail the guy and ask him. | 2008-07-04 | 7:05 PM |
